Meet Emily: Crimson Design Group’s Newest Interior Designer

We are excited to introduce Emily Miklas to the Crimson family and share a little bit about her. Emily grew up in Delaware, Ohio, just north of Columbus, where her love for interiors began with her childhood passion for rearranging the furniture in her room and constantly changing the colors of her walls. For her, the way a space is designed has always affected her mental headspace, sparking an early understanding of interiors.

Coming from a pet-loving family, Emily has always been surrounded by animals, particularly cats. In fact, her home was known to attract the neighborhood’s stray cats, with her mom always willing to feed them. Today, Emily continues that tradition with her own cat, Girl Kitty, and even has two tattoos dedicated to the pets that have impacted her life.

Emily’s educational journey took her to Miami University, where she studied interior design and joined the architecture and allied arts fraternity, Alpha Rho Chi. Her time abroad in Luxembourg during the fall of 2019 introduced her to the charm of European cities like Amsterdam, a favorite destination for its balance of cozy canals and a welcoming city vibe. She particularly admired how accessible public transportation made exploring the city effortless.

One of Emily’s most favorite projects at Miami was an interdisciplinary collaboration in Over-the-Rhine (OTR), in Cincinnati. She worked with both architects and fellow interior designers on a community laundromat project. The experience allowed her to see how different creative minds could come together to shape spaces people use every day, turning something ordinary into an inviting community space.

When it comes to her personal design aesthetic, Emily enjoys clean minimalism. However, when experiencing spaces, she’s drawn to maximalist, bohemian, and eccentric styles that infuse life and character. Outside of work, you’ll likely find her on the tennis court or indulging in her new favorite hobby, pickleball. She also loves shopping, playing board games with friends, and catching up on her favorite TV shows.

Joining Crimson Design Group is a significant step for Emily, offering a fresh aesthetic and exciting new projects. She’s particularly eager to dive into the detail-oriented designs that Crimson is known for, each project telling a rich, layered story. Emily is looking forward to growing her skills, gaining new experiences, and leaving her own creative mark in the world of design.
