When our clients decided to move back home to Columbus from New England, they wanted to bring a bit of the East Coast to their Midwest hometown. The bones of their new house were clean, modern, and contemporary with a bit of an Arts and Crafts flair.
Though the house itself was beautiful, this simply wasn’t the family’s aesthetic at all. That’s where we came in. They asked us to bring a more traditional, cozy feeling to the home along with a bit of worldly eclecticism. Our inspiration began with the rich colored and globally inspired fashion collection worn by the client. We brought that inspiration with us when we began planning their dining room, powder room, family room, and other spaces. In the dining room, we created a space that reflects the stately elegance of a traditional colonial home. Bringing a bit of the “Far East” to this East Coast influenced space, we selected Chinoiserie vases and a Chinese-red buffet. We offset the more traditional vibe of the room with a modern, textured wallpaper. In the powder room we brought new life to the existing vanity by installing new fixtures and sliced agate drawer pulls that looked like jewelry. We brought more New England cobalt blue into the home with the unique mirror, as well. We finished out the space with a wallpaper that features a hand pressed pattern. Among our favorite rooms in the house is his office space. We kept the existing built ins but balanced the dark red wood of the walls with a classic, Ralph Lauren plaid carpet. The true focal point of the room, however, is the antique game table that sits in the center of the room. A piece from her grandfather, this table reflects the family’s history even as they look forward to the future.
